A charity that supports young people in Swindon has been given a boost after receiving a £500 donation from local recruitment specialist Aligra.

Aligra MD, Mark Neilson said “Aligra has been a supporter of Scrappers for a number of years and when we saw they were raising funds for new equipment, we were delighted to jump in and help”.

Scrappers, which was started five years ago by former ABA boxing champion Paul Rogers and British kickboxing champion Andy Brown in conjunction with Swindon Children’s Scrapstore, is a project which inspires and motivates young adults.  More recently, the charity has secured some funding for a pioneering project to offer free fitness and boxing classes to disabled people in Swindon.

Scrappers, which is based next to the 24-Hour Gym in Langley Road, Hillmead, first opened its doors five years ago as a community fitness centre open to everyone from 13 upwards, especially those on low incomes.

Mark added “Aligra operates a ‘Donate as You Earn’ scheme with its hundreds of flexible employees where workers donate a few pence weekly with the funds raised donated to local good causes.  We have been able to support numerous local charities over recent years and always good to give something back to the communities we work in”.

Paul Rogers, Scrappers Head Coach said “we’re really pleased that Aligra were able to help, any support we get means we can keep providing support for those who need it”.

Since 2011, Scrappers has touched the lives of more than 10,000 children and young people in Swindon and over the past year the volunteers have coached almost 2,000 youngsters.
